Exhaust snapped, holdover tack weld reveals I always had a leak there!

Pic of it with 1/2-load of bikes!

My front exhaust pipe (manifold to cat ) snapped on one of the welds the other night. Two notes on that: 1) a straightpiped 900S sounds like a choppy edge-of-reason megatuned engine. 2) It was pouring rain and not very fun to wire up and drive home dripping wet.

Anyhow, I ordered the part, but tack welded half the pipe back together to last me til it shows up. The car is so much smoother and quieter now, holy cow! That weld must’ve been on its way out since I bought the car!

Also - what do y’all use for sealing small leaks in bodywork? I’ve got some truly horrible moisture issues right now. One is through the passenger footwell floor and the other is through one of the brake light assemblies. I haven’t had time to really dig into it yet, but am planning on doing it Friday. For smaller holes and cracks, is JB WaterWeld a good option? Something silicone-y?

bedding and glazing compound (butyl rubber based, never dries, just sort of “sets”) can be useful for small holes (ie. you drilled hole for a wire or two to pass through something). Seam sealer for cracks? On metal? ???

Didn’t mean like splits - rather spaces between fixtures on the rear light assembly. It’s impossible to source those gaskets where I live.

This is the answer to every leak. It is liquid rubber.

Saabs are the bestest.

Good luck with your repairs!

Yeah, thanks. I just found out that the exhaust pipe I ordered (only one in North America) was actually mis-entered into the system and doesn’t exist. So now... things get expensive.

Yeah, really. I can get one from overseas, but I’m in Canada until May and tariffs on car parts are ludicrous. Might just cross fingers that the tack holds until I’m back stateside. (That is, if the US exists in 3 months.)

I checked em out and used my old pal Shoe Goo on the tiny little hole in the trunk. Unfortunately, an undisclosed and undiagnoseable weather stripping problem is letting in inches of water on the passenger door. Wet vac’d and chamois and newspapered, now sitting with a fan on it. Plan is now to replace the mildew-infused sponge insulation in the summer. The joys of Saab ownership in the PNW!
